Lunar New Year Celebration

Saturday, January 28th marked the Lunar New Year!  2017 is the year of the Rooster.  Chinese horoscopes say that if you are born in a year of the roosterthat this year will be unlucky, but we are not short of luck here at WaHu!

We celebrated the Lunar New Year on Friday the 3rd.  WaHu partnered with The Hospitality Center for Chinese and the 700 on Washington to throw a big bash!  We were wowed with amazing Lion Dancers!  The dancers performed two dances, one to modern hits and one to traditional drum music.  DJ Morgan Poepping also provided some fun music for residents to dance to!

Shuang Cheng and United Noodle provided Chinese food to help everyone celebrate and With a Twist bartenders were whipping up some cocktails and serving a few different types of Chinese beer.  Plus there were a few sets of Chinese checkers and a table to make Fai Chun good luck signs!

We also had a raffle for HP Sprocket Instant Photo Printers! We want to send out a huge congrats to our raffle winners, Mohammed Mansour and Rosine Johnson who each took one home.

Keep your eye on the WaHu Facebook page as Photographer Nina Perkins will be posting the fun candids she took, as well as the photo booth pictures!  We loved seeing residents and staff getting goofy!

We hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. If you missed it, don’t fret! Keep your eye on WaHu social media pages for more upcoming events!

New Year, New Activities

Hello everyone!  The year may be over, but the fun isn’t!  January has a lot of great events to help you survive the cold and connect with our community!

Is there anything you need to make 2017 your best year?  Let us help you!  Post something you want to your Instagram and tag us in it. Don’t forget to follow us at WaHuStudentLiving. We will be giving away prizes from January 9th through 13th! You may be lucky enough to get your gift from WaHu! The season of giving doesn’t end in December!

This polar vortex makes it a tough season so spread some love to your community.  Residents and our team can donate gently used winter clothing to the Salvation Army.  We will collect donations through the whole month of January. Help us spread WaHu cheer to the outside community!

Warm up with us on January 6th!  We will have Hot Chamomile Tea with Cinnamon and Honey in the office.  You can get warm and cozy while taking a break from coffee!

The new semester starts January 17th and WaHu is here to help you succeed!  We will have breakfast on the go for you from 10:00AM-1:00PM in the office! Fuel up and start your semester off right.  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Finally, stay in with us on January 26th!  It’s a Snowpacolypse Movie Night!!  Join us and the 700 from 5PM-7PM for a pajama party with winter-y treats! We will watch The Day After Tomorrow and hide from the cold!

The weather outside is frightful, but the events at WaHu are so delightful!

December Events Past, Present, and Future!

Wahu started December off right with an Eggnog bar!  On the 2nd residents and the WaHu team shared delicious eggnog and spiced it up by adding flavor shots!  Residents got to hangout and chat while enjoying a wonderfully wintery treat!

Next up, we watched residents dominate at video games!  Last Thursday we hosted a Fifa Tournament!  Residents showed off their soccer and gaming skills and it was quite the showdown.  This was a requested event and we loved trying something new!  It was fun to hangout and have our own sporting event together! Congratulations to Mohamed Saad for being the champion!

Finals are super stressful, and WaHu was here to help! Yesterday, December 13th we partnered with Core Power Yoga to do a free yoga class!  It was a great way to get a good workout and get those endorphins flowing. After, everyone enjoyed some sweet treats and hot chocolate. Make sure you take time to relax and take care of yourself during finals. We wish you the best of luck!

December isn’t over yet, there is still a lot of fun to be had at WaHu!

We are in the middle of our Toy Drive for Toys for Tots!  Residents and members of the WaHu team can drop off toys in the lobby.  We want our community at WaHu to be connected to the community at large, especially during this holiday season!  Stop by the office with any donations before December 19th to help spread the love!

Finally, we will end December by joining with our sister property The 700!  Head over to the 6th floor Skylounge at the 700, December 22nd from 1PM-3PM for a holiday baking and goodie party!  Decorate your own cookies, and other treats!  Plus grab a delicious glass of eggnog!  On top of that we will have a wrapping station – tie your presents off with a bow!

Spread some joy this Holiday season!
